KC FIFA World Cup fans should eat at this Kansas City restaurant

Visitors to the 2026 KC FIFA World Cup this summer should absolutely make a point to have a spectacular breakfast or lunch with a Hispanic flair at The Breakfast Spot on the Kansas side of State Line Road in Leawood.

“A one-of-a-kind hidden gem,” writes City Lifestyle magazine.

KC FIFA World Cup fans from Argentina and Ecuador, especially, will love The Breakfast Spot’s unique, seamless blending of the All-American breakfast with distinctly south-of-the-border delights such as huevos rancheros and fire-roasted green chili pork, chilaquiles – and a fan favorite, the fruity chimichanga.

“We fell in love with the Fruity Chimichanga,” one Tripadvisor reviewer glowed. “It was delicious. Bananas, strawberries, blueberries & cream cheeses in a flour shell deep fried with caramel sauce & whipped cream. It was filling enough for breakfast. It was so good we went back the next week and had another one.”

The reviewer also recommends the Mamba Burrito.

“Great little breakfast spot on State Line Road,” writes another satisfied customer of The Breakfast Spot, 13164 State Line Road. “As an old New Mexican, I thought I was back eating across the street from [the University of New Mexico]. Absolute heaven. But you can get an American style breakfast too, if that’s what you’re looking for.”

That’s precisely what my wife and I were looking for – but what we got instead was one of the best American-style breakfasts ever.

I drooled over my wife’s pancakes – huge, fluffy, stacked high and topped by puffy powdered sugar – until I bit into my ham and eggs, hash browns and toast. It’s my all-time go-to breakfast when eating out, and I can tell you I’ve never had one better than at The Breakfast Spot.

I’m an egg aficionado, and my preferred over-medium is difficult to do just right. But The Breakfast Spot has perfected it, right along with an overly generous slice of tender, juicy ham and hash browns to die for.

Absolutely. Nailed. It.

I suspect that’s because the entire restaurant, from its conception, has been a labor of love – and not just of owner Luis Ornelas’ fondness for both breakfast and Mexican cuisine. He and his family set out to honor not only their beloved America, but also his ancestral home of Mexico.

Those in Kansas City for the KC FIFA World Cup – and those who live here – owe it to themselves to try The Breakfast Spot in Leawood.

The Breakfast Spot, 13164 State Line Road, Leawood, KS, 66209, is open for breakfast and lunch, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, and 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Luis and his wife Jennifer also operate Con Huevos by The Breakfast Spot, a fast-casual breakfast and brunch cafe at 8881 W 75th St. in nearby Overland Park, Kansas.
