Now, let’s celebrate Hollywood’s best portrayals of patriotism – with America’s Most Patriotic Movies Ever!
In this installment, we look at No. 10 of America’s Most Patriotic Movies EVER – The Great Escape.
- The Great Escape (1963)
A fictionalized retelling of a very real mass escape from a German POW camp in World War II, The Great Escape is a gripping account of a daring breakout that, most of all, celebrates both the beauty and peril of the indomitable human spirit of defiance. Steve McQueen’s ill-fated but unflappable baseball-loving prisoner leaves his German captors quizzical and audiences bursting with pride.
The Great Escape earns nearly unanimous praise from both critics and audiences on RottenTomatoes.com, with 94% and 95% marks, respectively.
Trapped behind barbed wire in a camp designed specifically for trouble-making prisoners, these men proudly gave the Nazis fits – and, in some cases, gave their all for their country.
That’s the very definition of patriotism.
And that’s why The Great Escape is No. 10 on BestEverBuzz’s list of the Top 10 Most Patriotic Movies Ever.
