Now, here’s what makes Casablanca the No. 8 Most Patriotic Movie EVER!
- Casablanca (1942)
Arguably the best movie ever made, Casablanca is about everything good and uplifting: honor, friendship, sacrifice, love and, yes, patriotism. America is even something of an uncredited cast member: While refugees fight and finagle their way to escape Morocco to freedom and safety in America, expatriate cafe owner Rick Blaine, played by Humphrey Bogart, tries to stay neutral and uninvolved. Will he ultimately see the wisdom in the world’s fight for freedom?
It’s also one of film history’s greatest romances — and Ingrid Bergman is timelessly stunning as Bogart’s all-consuming love.
Rick’s awakening may be a metaphor for America itself – which, at the movie’s release in 1942-43, was mobilizing in the fight for freedom in Europe and the Pacific.
It just doesn’t get any better than this. In fact, critics at RottenTomatoes.com give Casablanca a near-perfect 99% fresh rating.
All that is why Casablanca is No. 8 on BestEverBuzz’s list of the Top 10 of America’s Most Patriotic Movies Ever!
