Now, let’s look more closely at the No. 6 movie in BestEverBuzz’s Patriotic Movies July 4th countdown:

  1. Miracle (2004)

“Do you believe in miracles?  Yes!”  That was broadcaster Al Michaels’ exuberant and now-legendary call of the American men’s hockey win against the vaunted Soviets in the 1980 Olympics.

Sports Illustrated named the victory the No. 1 sports moment of the 20th century – and certainly it was perhaps the greatest upset in all of sports history, as well as one of the great patriotic moments in modern American lore.

Miracle may not contain the gravity of a war story, but it accurately portrays the tidal wave of patriotism that washed over America when its hockey team took down the heavily-favored Soviets, then won gold against Finland.

It taught a generation to believe in miracles. And that’s why it comes in at No. 6 in BestEverBuzz’s Patriotic Movies July 4th countdown.
