Check out these trips to take in retirement
Are you itching to see the world now that the COVID-19 pandemic is a bad memory?
You’re in good company, especially since Baby Boomer retirements skyrocketed in 2020: Some 28.6 million Baby Boomers – those born between 1946 and 1964 – reported retiring just in the third quarter of 2020, according to Pew Research. That’s a jump of 3.2 million over the year before, and the biggest increase in many years.
So, where should you head out?
First, explore the frontiers of your heart and mind. If you don’t already have a bucket list of sites and adventures you long to experience, you know in your heart that if it’s written down it’s much more likely to get done. So write it down! Think of it as a “to do” list for your best life.
To help fill out your bucket list – and perhaps to avoid the most obvious, most crowded vacation destinations – our friends at Travel + Leisure Magazine have put together a smashing list of “15 Trips You Need to Take as Soon as You Retire.”
The list includes suggested North American excursions such as the Blue Ridge Parkway; Scottsdale, Arizona; the Canadian Rockies (with an Alaskan cruise); as well as Asia, Iceland and more.
Now’s the time to get going. Again, you’ll be in great company: AARP’s “Boomer Travel Trends” found an absolutely astonishing number of boomers – 94% – planned at least one vacation in 2019, though the average was four to five planned trips. Moreover, 53% expected to travel internationally.
And that was before COVID brought on a worldwide epidemic of cabin fever!
